As a result, the 4L80E is a completely different transmission and doesn’t share anything in common with the 4L60E. But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. If you expect to go beyond that, I would suggest getting one built for more hp. A 6l80e, stock, is in the 5-600hp range from what I gather from google.The factory injectors are only rated at 25 lbs. and won't support much more than 380 hp. ... The stock heads can be CNC ported for more airflow and milled up to .030 in. for more compression. Flow numbers can be as high as 325 cfm at .600 lift. ... They've been known to handle over 1000 whp. The main reason for going with a stroker forged ....
